Screen printing 6 colours.
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing ink into the mesh openings for transfer by capillary action during the squeegee stroke. Basically, it is the process of using a stencil to apply ink onto another material. We are unable to print tone and fine detail using this print method. Multi-colour prints are possible however tight registration is difficult to maintain. CMYK printing is possible however it is better to use a transfer. The stencils are disposed of after use to comply with ISO requirements.
Digital Transfer full colour.
A generic term that covers methods of printing from a digital base image directly on to a variety of different media. It usually has a higher cost per print than more traditional printing methods such as offset litho and flexo, but this price is usually offset by the cost saving in not requiring printing plates. It also saves labour on the image formatting as you can usually print from other digital sources such as jpeg’s and gif’s without pre-processing. All these factors reduce the typical setup time for printing making it economical at low runs. One of the problems with digital printing is that the print quality is not as good as other printing methods.
Transfer Printing
The same process as applying transfers to T-shirts, transfer paper is digitally printed and then heat pressed onto material. We can lithographically print the transfers on larger runs to offer a better print quality. An alternative process to screen printing onto cotton and jute as it provides a better full colour print, however it is more expensive.
